VAHANA: The Role of Existence Behind the Sacred

Amidst the breathtaking grandeur and the power of faith surrounding sacred sculptures and major monuments, the artist turns his gaze away from the “central figures” enshrined in mainstream history. Instead, he questions the existence of “subordinate elements”—such as horses, elephants, and divine mounts—that are often overlooked. Far from being mere decorative details that complete a narrative, these mounts are, in fact, the vital foundation that supports, elevates, and empowers the primary figures, granting them their full majesty and meaning.

In this exhibition, Arnut’s paintings serve as a “reclamation of power” for these forgotten entities. Reinterpreting these supporting characters, the artist elevates them to the status of “protagonists” on canvas through a striking collision between classical sculpted forms and the vibrant vernacular of Street Art. Traces of layering, deconstruction, simplification, and direct typography function as a sharp visual commentary—critiquing and challenging the sacred context of the original sculptures.

“VAHANA” is thus more than a pictorial record of divine mounts; it is an invitation for viewers to reflect on “the role of presence.” This body of work opens a space for “micro-history,” celebrating the silent bearers of power while reminding us that no grand structure of authority can endure without the essential cogs supporting it from beneath.

VAHANA: บทบาทแห่งการมีอยู่เบื้องหลังความศักดิ์สิทธิ์

ท่ามกลางความงดงามตระการตาและอำนาจแห่งศรัทธาที่ห่อหุ้มประติมากรรมศักดิ์สิทธิ์และอนุสาวรีย์สำคัญต่างๆ ศิลปินได้ละสายตาจาก “องค์ประธาน” ที่ถูกจารึกไว้ในหน้าประวัติศาสตร์หลัก และหันมาตั้งคำถามถึงการมีอยู่ของ “องค์ประกอบรอง” เช่น ช้าง ม้า หรือสัตว์พาหนะ ที่มักถูกมองข้าม สัตว์พาหนะเหล่านี้ไม่ใช่เพียงส่วนประกอบที่เติมเต็มความสมบูรณ์ของภาพเล่าเรื่อง แต่แท้จริงแล้ว พวกมันคือฐานรากสำคัญที่คอยอุ้มชู ส่งเสริมบารมี และผลักดันให้ประติมากรรมหลักนั้นทรงพลังและมีความหมายอย่างสมบูรณ์แบบ

ในนิทรรศการครั้งนี้ ผลงานจิตรกรรมของอาณัติเสมือน “การยึดอำนาจ” คืนให้กับองค์ประกอบที่ถูกหลงลืม  ศิลปินได้นำตัวละครรองเหล่านี้มาตีความใหม่ และหยิบยื่นสถานะ “ตัวเอก” ให้บนผ้าใบ ผ่านการปะทะกันของรูปทรงประติมากรรมกับภาษาที่จัดจ้านของวัฒนธรรมสตรีทอาร์ต (Street Art) ร่องรอยของการถูกทับซ้อนรื้อถอน การลดทอนรายละเอียด  และการใช้ตัวอักษร (Typography) ที่สื่อสารอย่างตรงไปตรงมา ทำหน้าที่เสมือนการแสดงทัศนะ วิพากษ์ และตั้งคำถามต่อบริบทความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของประติมากรรมต้นแบบ

“VAHANA” จึงไม่ใช่เพียงภาพวาดที่บันทึกเรื่องราวของพาหนะ แต่เป็นการชวนให้ผู้ชมทำความเข้าใจถึง “บทบาทของการมีอยู่” งานชุดนี้ได้เปิดพื้นที่ให้กับ “ประวัติศาสตร์ย่อย” (Micro-history) เพื่อเฉลิมฉลองให้กับผู้แบกรับอำนาจ และย้ำเตือนให้เราเห็นว่า โครงสร้างของความยิ่งใหญ่ใดๆ ล้วนไม่อาจดำรงอยู่ได้ หากปราศจากฟันเฟืองที่คอยค้ำยันอยู่เบื้องหลัง
