Concept:  Voice along the river

Long before human settlement, the Chao Phraya Basin existed as a living landscape shaped by water, ecology, and natural rhythms. Its fertile floodplains nurtured the emergence of early communities, eventually becoming the cradle of civilizations whose cultures, beliefs, and identities were carried along its currents.

The artist’s initial exploration focused on imagining the basin before human intervention—a primordial environment where the river served as the foundation upon which future civilizations would grow. In this context, water becomes a symbol of origin, continuity, and cultural memory.

The work later evolved toward a reflection on freedom of expression as a fundamental human right. Through mixed-media techniques, fragments of newspaper text represent language, information, public discourse, and the circulation of ideas. The red material symbolizes blood—evoking sacrifice, struggle, and the human cost endured by those who defend the freedom to speak, write, and communicate.

Words can be both instruments of creation and powerful weapons. Like a river, they possess the capacity to sustain life, shape societies, and transform landscapes. By bringing together references to the Chao Phraya River and the symbolism of speech and sacrifice, the work explores how civilizations are formed not only by water, but also by the voices that flow through them.
